A Tutorial on Using a USB Flash Drive To Install Windows 7

To reduce the thickness or cost of product, many laptop, netbook specially didn’t equip optical drive as CD drive or DVD drive. What do you do if you want to install the new windows into your laptop. In this case, USB or hard disk will be choice to replace the DVD drive. You can install windows from USB by WintoFlash application.

Requirement

USB has minimum 3 GB to stored windows installing package.
Format USB under NTFS: Right click on USB symbol > Format > Select NTFS. Ensure back up all data before format.
The second laptop has the optical drive ( CD/DVD)
The Windows install CD or DVD, or can use the ISO file downloaded from internet and use Virtual Clone Drive to creat Virtual Disk.

Step 1

Insert Windows installing CD (DVD) into optical disk on second laptop and insert USB.
Unzip Wintoflash and launch WintoFlash.exe
If dialog “WintoFlash DLP_NotFound” click OK to skip.
On main interface, click Service > Switch to Wizard Mode.
Click Next to continue

Windows file path dialog: select the optical drive address
USB drive dialog: USB path address
Click Next
In the next dialog, select “I Accept…” > Continue, the program will be format your USB.

The processing covert CD rom into USB finishes when you see “Done”.
At this time, you can use this USB to start up and install Windows into other laptop/ netbook don’t need CD or DVD rom.
Note: Some laptop/netbook require you re setting BIOS to boot by USB.
